The Starkville Christian School boys basketball team has enjoyed a successful run since the calendar changed to 2012.
The Cougars have have a 5-2 record so far in January and took second place out of 16 teams at the Grace Christian Tournament in Louisville last weekend.
Starkville Christian defeated Bethlehem Christian in the first round of the event. Paul Michael Calhoun had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Jesse Little grabbed a team-high 21 boards and added nine points.
In the championship game, the Cougars lost a 56-33 decision to Immanuel Christian. Little scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, while Caleb Jordan had seven point sand 10 boards.
Starkville Christian defeated the Meridian Flyers on the road 55-32 on Monday. The Cougars were able to expand a halftime lead of 25-24 to get the victory.
Calhoun registered another double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Little contributed 21 points.
Starkville Christian boys coach Mark Horstmeyer has been pleased with the progress.
"It's amazing to see how far we've come in four years to get to this point," Horstmeyer said.
Thursday will be senior night at SCS and the Cougars will honor their only senior in Calhoun.View more articles in:
