Polly Jolly

OKOLONA – Mrs. Pauline “Polly” Jolly, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
She was born March 11, 1928 in Red Oak, Texas, to Mr. Albert Murdock and Mrs. Orlena Mae Gillespie Murdock. She grew up in Sherman, graduating from Sherman High School. She married Wilmon Devan Jolly May 6, 1946, sharing 49 blissful years together until his death Aug. 30, 1995.
She has lived in Okolona for the past 65 years. Polly exemplified a life well lived. She was respected and loved as a faithful Christian, a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, loved playing games with her family and always made everyone feel welcome in her home. She had the gift of service and hospitality, serving at New Hope United Methodist Church as secretary and treasurer for 48 years. She also was the adult Sunday school teacher. As a cafeteria worker at Okolona High School, she served for 30 years and retired in 2005.
A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at Okolona First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Harrison and Rev. H. B. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Boone’s Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation was held 5-8 p.m. Thursday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will be held Friday from noon to service time at Okolona First United Methodist Church.
Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Turner (Sammy) of Starkville and Martha Decanter (Ricky) of Okolona; three sons, David Jolly (Allene) of Ingomar, Harold Jolly (Joyce) of South Pontotoc and Philip Jolly (Brenda) of Okolona; one sister, Earnestine “Teany” Jolly of Sherman; two sister-in-laws, Beatrice Jolly of Okolona and Drue Jolly of Shannon; 10 grandchildren, Rob Turner, Casey Turner, Hope Conlee, Brandi Reid, Dave Jolly, Christy Jolly, Michael Jolly, Hunter Jolly, Timmy Jolly and Chad Decanter; 18 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Corrine Turner.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, six brothers, Hiram, Frank, Hill, Allen, Audie and Albert “Red” Murdock; and three sisters, Oconee Caldwell, Myra Foster and Elousie Hill.
Pallbearers will be Reggie Jolly, Edward Jolly, David Mize, Andy Anderson, Van Anderson and Shane Henry. Honorary pallbearers will be Mickey Jolly, Terry Jolly, Allen Jolly, James Young, Pete Worthey and Jim Murdock.
