The West Okitbbeha boys' team is coming off a close win over rival East Oktibbeha and are hoping to carry that momentum over to the McAdams Tournament.
The Timberwolves have had a long time to rest and prepare for their upcoming game. Head coach Danny Crawford has loved the attitude he has seen from his team in practice.
"We have had time to condition and correct somethings that needed correcting," Crawford said. "We are correcting our mistakes and getting better. I have had time to put in new offenses and defenses."
Crawford is no stranger to Durant basketball. He coached in the same county for three years and had time to see how the Tigers play the game.
He also knows a lot about Durant's coach, Kenyon Ross.
"I know a lot," Crawford said of Durant. "I coached a school in the same county for three years. Me and coach Ross are best friends so I know a lot about his squad."
The Timberwolves have relied on Kendrin Yates all year. Crawford likes that he has been consistent all year, but does not want his other players to step up.
"No sir," Crawford said of just relying on Yates. "Kendrin has been our most consistent player, but a lot of my guys are picking up."
West has had other players step up the last couple of weeks. Ev'rick Collins has scored in double figures in his last four games including 20 points, the game high agaisnt East Oktibbeha, in their last outing.
Crawford has really been impressed with the play of Dantaveous Crawford. He has seen him coming on as of late and is glad to see it.
They will face off against Durant at 4:30 p.m.
The Timberwolves are 10-2 for the year and will also play Wednesday with the opponent TBD.
The Lady Timberwolves are coming off a heart breaking loss to rival East Oktibbeha.
West controlled most of that game until the end when the Lady Titans capitalized on Lady Timberwolves' mistakes. Dwelling on that collapse is something head coach Marcus Johnson and his squad are not going to do.
"We are not going to dwell on that loss," Johnson said. "We are going to keep it in the past."
West will open up the tournament playing Durant at 3 p.m. Johnson has seen a lot of enthusiasm from his squad in practice.
"Pretty good," Johnson said of how his team has responded in practice. "My girls came in with good spirits today and we had a good practice. I told my team that this is the beginning of a new season."
The Lady Tiberwolves have already played the Lady Tigers once this year. They lost by three points in a one quarter game during the Jamboree. Johnson was impressed with what he saw.
"I was impressed, but we match up with them tit-for-tat." Johnson said.
Jaslyne Bedford has been the leader for the Lady Timberwolves and is a player that Johnson loves to talk about.
"She leads our team in scoring," Johnson said. "When she can score 20 points on a bad night you know she is a good player. She can play."
The Lady Timberwolves are 5-4 for the year and will play again on Wednesday against an unkown opponent .
The East Oktibbeha Titans will also be in action this week in McAdams.
The Lady Titans have a lot of momentum after their victory over the Lady Timberwolves and look to keep it going this week.
They will also play tomorrow.
The Titans will be playing in The Hump as part of the Travis Outlaw Slam Dunk Tournament.
They will begin the Tournament on Thursday when they play New Hope at 3 p.m. and conclude with Louisville at 11 a.m. on Friday.
