Trainer announces election bid for Dist. 2 Supervisor

In announcing his candidacy for Oktibbeha County District 2 Supervisor, Orlando K. Trainer made the following statement:
“I am 37 years old, and I am married to Kareader Brand Trainer. Together, we have three children: Kelsey, Lance and Kasey. My parents are the late Blevins Washington and the late Josie Trainer. I have four siblings: Marilyn Trainer, Patricia Trainer, Vivian Evans and Suprenda Bishop.
I am a member of Sand Creek Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and am involved with the Rising Star Masonic Lodge No. 31 and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Golden Triangle. I am the Mount Olivet District Laymens’ president, a member of the Winston County Self Help Cooperative, the Oktibbeha Small Farmers and Landowners Group, Mississippi Association of Supervisors (legislative committee member) and the Mississippi Association of Supervisors Minority Caucus.
“I want to give back to my community in a way that can have a substantial impact. I am divinely inspired. It is all about service. I believe that the greatest thing that one can do is simply try to help someone. My past political and public service includes having served as District 2 Supervisor for 11 years.
“I currently serve as a deacon for Sand Creek Missionary Baptist Church and have done so for 12 years. I am a junior warden in Masonic Lodge Rising Star No. 31, and I was elected Student Body President of Starkville High School for my senior year, 1991-92.
“My vision for this community involves a comprehensive road program that addresses all roads and an aggressive campaign to issue road bonds for new construction and maintenance programs. Oktibbeha County is in excellent financial shape and has adequate borrowing capacity to improve infrastructure. I want to develop forward thinking and progressive programs and services that can improve the quality of life in this county as a whole. I want to evaluate all government operations and services to determine their effectiveness and enhance using approaches that will not cause undo burden and yield greater benefits.
“There many big challenges facing our county, and I would seek to address them. First, we must make the transition to provide services that are outside of the box or non-traditional. The expectation of services is greater. Providing services in a time where costs continue to rise. We must also keep up with the growth of this county and meet the expectations of different constituencies. Also, we must find a way to get funding services at adequate and effective levels. We must emphasize the need to be more aggressive and offensive so that we address concerns and problems before they become critical. In addition, we must find ways of addressing problems within our means.
“We must work more eagerly and efficiently together, take advantage of financial maneuvers and ideas that can generate additional revenue, focus on more countywide projects that have substantial impact, and consolidate duplicate services from both city and county perspectives. Let’s look at everything and make forward thinking difficult decisions immediately and reap the return on our investment soon.”
