Consistency key in plan for Canton

October 13, 2011

It's been a tale of two different seasons for the Canton Tigers.
Canton experienced success in its non-conference schedule by starting out with a 3-1 overall record.
In Class 5A, Region 2, District 6 games, the Tigers have dropped all three games they've played.
"We're off to a terrible start in the division, but we still hope that we can turn it around," Canton coach Peter Brown said.
The Tigers get a chance to right themselves in a big way Friday night when they make the trip to Starkville to play the Yellowjackets. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Brown said Canton doesn't have a primarily old or young team, but somewhere in the middle with a mixture of seniors, junior and sophomores starting.
Just as the Tigers have gone from having non-conference success to struggling in the region, Brown has watched them even have those types of swings during games.
"We've just got to be more consistent," Brown said. "Last week, we played a good first half and a bad second half, then the week before that, we had a bad first half and a good second half so we've got to be able to put it all together."
When it comes to offense, Brown said Canton likes to have a balance between the run and pass.
"We do a little bit of both," Brown said. "We're probably 60-40 run over pass."
Brown believes there has to be an element of surprise when it comes to dealing with a team like Starkville, which at 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the region has experienced quite a bit of success so far this season.
"(Starkville) is very athletic and very physical," Brown said. "I haven't seen them, but just looking at them on film they have a very good football team."
