The Starkville Police Department arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection to the armed robbery of a Mississippi State University student on Sept. 18.
Dashante Aquill Nix, of 2172 Williams Road, Starkville, was charged with one count of armed robbery, according to an SPD release. His bond was set at $100,000, the release stated, and he is currently in custody at the Clay County Jail.
Nix is not a suspect in the attempted Sept. 12 sexual assault of a female jogger, which occurred on University Drive near Old West Point Road, the same area where the Sept. 18 robbery occurred.
SPD investigators said no further details are available at this time.
Last week, SPD officials said the victim was walking alone on University Drive approximately 3-3:30 a.m. when her attacker ran toward her near Old West Point Road, pulled out a handgun, pointed it toward her head and robbed her.
The robber fled east on University Drive after taking her purse and cell phone.
The victim ran to a friend’s apartment at Glen Hollow on Old West Point Road and reported the crime to SPD.
Witnesses first spotted an individual fitting the suspect’s description walking west on Lummus Drive, then running through an open patch of land on Colonel Muldrow Avenue.
Since the robbery and the Sept. 12 incident, SPD Chief David Lindley said residents should avoid walking alone during dark hours.
Anyone with information regarding either incident can call SPD at (662) 323-4131 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at (800) 530-7151.
