JACKSON – Not even the road can slow down the Starkville volleyball team. The Lady Yellowjackets won again Monday, 3-1 over Callaway.
SHS won the first set 25-14, took the second set 25-12, dropped the third set 25-23, then rebounded to take the fourth set 25-20.
SHS improved to 15-10 overall and 5-0 in district play with the victory.
It wasn't easy, however, as Starkville coach Lauren Love said it was a challenge to put Callaway down.
"Sometimes you have to lose a set to remember what to do to win," said Love. "We had some unforced errors and they took advantage, but we were fortunate to get this win."
Wheeler Richardson had a big night in the SHS triumph with 12 aces, 27 assists, seven kills and seven digs.
April Reese added six aces, 12 kills and three digs for Starkville, while Khristian Carr had three aces, 11 kills, five digs and an assist.
Additionally, Michaela Mills had six aces, four kills and five digs, and Margaret Allison added seven kills and three assists.
Starkville returns to action on Thursday at the Starkville Sportsplex Gym with a 6 p.m. varsity match against Williams Sullivan.
