Tom Carpenter, 73, passed away, Monday, Sept. 5, 2011, at his residence near Starkville.
Visitation will be Wednesday, noon until 2 p.m. at Artesia Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. from Artesia Baptist Church with the Reverend Jeff Morgan officiating and assisted by Reverend Kenny Gardner. Burial with Masonic Graveside Rites will follow in Curtis Chapel Cemetery near Starkville. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Vaughan, Bruce Edwards, Jeff Holcomb, Jimmy Potter, Waverly Oakley and Mark Crittenden.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Gentry, Mark Bolin, Robert Bolin, Harold Gary and Jessie Roberts.
Thomas Lee Carpenter was born June 30, 1938, in Webster County to the late Martha Myrtle Dunn and Charles Benford Carpenter. Mr. Tom was a Bridge Builder; he retired and as a Superintendent. He also owned and operated Ideal Concrete Company. He was a member of Artesia Baptist Church and was a Member of the Adelphian Lodge #174 F.& A. M. in Eupora. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Tom Carpenter married Bertha Mae Palmer Carpenter on Sept. 20, 1988, in Slate Springs.
Survivors include Wife Bertha Carpenter of Starkville; two sons, Scott Carpenter of Missouri and Rick Haven (Suzanne) of Yazoo City; a step-daughter, Tracy Howell of Iuka; three step-sons, Derek Howell of Nettleton, Steve Howell and Rodney Howell (Melanie), both of Tremont; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a special friend, Betty Roberts of West Point.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Tom was predeceased in death by his first wife, Betty Carpenter, and his brother, C.B. Carpenter.
