From Staff Reports
Columbus 20, Starkville 0
The Columbus Lady Falcons were too much for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets to handle on Thursday.
The Lady Falcons out-hit Starkville 16-1 as they cruised to a three-inning win.
Starkville's lone hit belonged to Nicole Hackett, who was hit with the loss as the games starting pitcher.
Courtney Hollis and Aubreonna Mitchell were the only other Lady Jackets to reach base when they drew walks in the second and third innings. Â
The Lady Falcons scored five runs in the first inning, followed by six in the second, but put the mercy rule in effect with a nine run third inning. The third inning offensive explosion showcased two triples and four RBI singles.
"We made a lot of mental mistakes," said SHS head coach Lisa Spencer. "We're a young team and we have to get more softball savvy. Columbus is a good team and they did what it takes to win."
The Lady Jackets will play East Oktibbeha on Monday with varsity starting at 6 p.m.

HOUSTON – The East Webster Lady Wolverines managed just five hits in a loss on the road to Houston.
"We just didn't hit the ball very well," said East Webster head coach Meleah Brown. "Of course, Houston has a good defense, but we were just popping the ball up way too much."
Montana Spencer was the lone Lady Wolverine with multiple hits.
East Webster fell to 4-3 overall this season with the loss.
The Lady Wolverines will attempt to rebound from the defeat on Saturday at the Robertson's Sportswear Tournament in New Albany.
