White announces candidacy for Dist. 1 Constable

July 31, 2011

For Starkville Daily News

In making his announcement to run for District 1 Constable, Curtis White made the following statement:
“My name is Curtis White. I am a candidate for the office of District 1 Constable. I am not here to tell you we need changes in District 1. I say that because our former constable Jimmy Shurden did an outstanding job during his service to this country. I am running because I too have something to offer the citizens of District 1. If elected, I will bring to this position years of law enforcement experience and fair leadership.
“I have lived in the district over 23 years, my family are solid citizens in this district. My wife, Jerelean Johnson White, has worked in the Starkville Public School District over 22 years. We have four children: Carmen, Nicole, Harishma and Curtrice. Three (Nicole, Harishman and Curtrice) are graduates of Starkville High School and two (Harishma and Curtrice) are graduates of Mississippi State University. Carmen is a graduate of East Mississippi Community College. My sister Mary served as a dietician at Alexander School for over 30 years. My brother Earl works with Rolling Hills Nursing Center as a music therapist. Monica, my sister, is the Chancery Clerk of Oktibbeha County. Maria serves as Associate Dean of Students (Director of Holmes Center of Cultural Diversity) at Mississippi State University and Patricia a graduate of Mississippi State University. Monica, Maria, and Patricia are all graduates of Maben High School. I am a member of the Saint Paul Missionary Baptisit Church where I serve as a trustee. I am also a member of the Rising Star Lodge #31 Prince Hall (PHA) as a 32nd degree Mason in the jurisdiction of Mississippi.
“I have chosen to run for this elective office because it gives me another opportunity to use my Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy Training certifications to protect and serve my community. My law enforcement certifications include but are not limited to: certification in the use of OC spray (pepper spray), juvenile interviews, use of taser and handguns, transportation officer, jailer, CPR, etc. I currently act as bailiff for the Oktibbeha County Justice Court, Chancery Court and Circuit Court when needed. It is the responsibility of the Constable to bailiff for Justice Court.
“I feel that it is important to feel safe in the community in which you live. I have been employed with the Oktibbeha County Sheriff Department since 1992 as a part-time Deputy Sheriff.
“The biggest challenges facing our county in my opinion are maintaining a wholesome atmosphere in the city and county in which we live. Maintaining peace in the community will be an awesome job but being visible and available will help to solve some of the problems. I will be readily available to answer the call of this position. I will keep myself abreast of the possible dangers that may try to threaten this community. Starkville is a great place to live. I want Starkville to remain a place where you can rear your children in a safe environment as well as enjoy the benefits of its retirement pleasures.
“A vote for me, Curtis White, is a vote for someone who will uphold the law and respect the people in the process. So on August 2nd 2011 please vote Curtis White, Constable District 1.”
