Maben farmer's market now accepting EBT cards and FMNP vouchers

July 21, 2011

Several vendors of the Maben Farmer's Market are now accepting EBT cards and FMNP vouchers.
Jan Collins, one of the Sparkplugs of the market, introduced me to the vendor Landcaster Farms, which is located on Hickory Grove Road near Starkville, as one of those vendors that accepts EBT cards as well as FMNP Vouchers, which is part of the Mississippi Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program.
Landcaster Farms, owned and operated by Eric and Anna Landcaster, has a wide range of produce available to the public such as jams, jellies, squash, green beans, tomatoes, okra, cucumbers, figs, egg plants, and pre-bagged shelled peas.
This vendor is set up to accept EBT cards on the spot; persons that have these cards should come by and consider purchasing some fresh food for their family.

Ability Works, Inc., another vendor at the market, has a new product for sale that may interest the public: bat houses. I'm sure some are wondering why a person would buy a bat house. Well, bats eat their weight in mosquitoes daily. These houses are built on the pattern of the blue bird house minus the hole and the bottom, but has added slates with ridges built up in the house for the bats to hang from when resting or sleeping. They sell for $8 each.
They also sell other types of bird/duck houses as well as dog houses, bird feeders, squirrel feeders, and vegetable stakes of varying heights, ranging in price from $.50-$.70.
The Maben farmers’ market opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 10 a.m. on Friday mornings.
