VICKSBURG — Mississippi State University students took four of the top five honors in the Miss Mississippi Pageant Saturday night.
Miss North Central Mississippi Mary Margaret Roark of Cleveland was named the state’s new Miss Mississippi last night by outgoing Miss Mississippi Sarah Beth James of Madison.
Roark is a communications major at MSU. She was a top 10 semifinalist in the 2010 pageant and a preliminary swimsuit winner this year and in 2010.
Other MSU students receiving top five honors included:
First alternate Miss Central Mississippi Shelby Danielle Corn of Brandon, a kinesiology major.
Miss Heartland Fenly Akers of Vicksburg, second alternate, is a public relations major.
Miss Delta Blues Stephanie Stanford of Grenada, a pre-med student, was named fourth alternate.
Roark will represent Mississippi in the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas in January. She receives a $10,000 scholarship from the Miss Mississippi Corporation.
Miss Pine Belt/Gulf Coast Marie Wicks of Ocean Springs was third alternate.
