Floyd Chenney

Floyd Chenney, 82, passed away June 23 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Louisville on May 4, 1929. He graduated from Maben High School in 1947 as president of his class. After moving to Starkville, he was in the wholesale grocery and convenience store business, retiring in 1998.
Floyd and his wife, Ann, were married in West Point on June 14, 1952, by John Murphree. Floyd was a member of the Church of Christ, where he served as an elder, song director, teacher, and chair of the benevolence ministry.
Floyd was predeceased by his parents, Ervin Floyd and Eulera Smith Chenney, and his sister, Virginia Chenney Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ann; son, Erle Floyd Chenney (Melissa); daughter, Carol Ann Dowdy; grandsons, Benjamin, Nicholas, Michael, and Matthew Dowdy; granddaughter, Betsy Ann Chenney; and sister, Lera Dae Doss.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. on June 25 at Welch Funeral Home. Services will be at the Church of Christ at 2 p.m. on June 26 at 2 p.m., conducted by Andy Miller and John T. Smithson. Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Williams, Bailey Howell, Phillip Doss, and his grandsons. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens.
