Patricia O’Connor-Seger

Patricia O'Connor-Seger, 68, passed away of complications from Alzheimer’s disease at her home in Starkville on June 6.
Born October 31, 1942 in Highland Park, Ill., Patty Seger was an accomplished artist with a distinguished career of work in fine art and graphic design. She held a B.A. from Barat  College in Lake Forest, Ill. and an M.F.A. from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Her life pilgrimage included 16 years of service as a catholic nun with the Order of the Sacred Heart. In 1972, she created and became director of Designhouse, a graphic design studio, and in 1995, she founded its successor business NewIDEAS (New Institute for Design in Electronic Applications and Services). At Mississippi State University, she was for a number of years a faculty member with the Department of Art teaching Animation and Electronic Imaging. Subsequently, she served as the Art Director of the Computational Design Lab at the NSF/Engineering Research Center. She authored two books and designed layouts for more than a dozen others. She specialized in Corporate Image Design and created logos for over 100 U.S. businesses and organizations, winning annual Corporate Identity awards for her work. She also designed and installed more than two dozen exhibit modules of varying scales and subjects throughout the country and abroad. Her photographs, fine art work, painted ceramics and original jewelry are widely distributed.
O’Connor-Seger is survived by her husband of twenty-nine years Joe Seger of Starkville; his children Daniel J. Seger of Canton, Conn., James D. Seger of  Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert J. Seger of North Granby, Conn., and Kariman Pierce of Tucson, Ariz.; four sisters, Mary Beth McGivern of Edwardsville, Ill., Sophia Thundercloud of Ashland, Oreg., Kathy Schell of New York City, N.Y., and Colleen Schwanz of Glenview, Ill.; and five brothers Richard O’Connor III of Lake Oswego, Oreg., Nicholas O’Connor of Ashland, Oreg., Michael O’Connor of Quincy, Ill., Kevin O’Connor of Kent, Wash., and Timothy O’Connor of Notre Dame, Ind. Mrs. Seger was predeceased by her father Richard D. O’Connor II of Highwood, Ill. and Mary Aurelia Fletchinger of Mobile, Ala.
