Annie Haughey Carter Morgan, 91, of Jackson, Mississippi, passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She was born on April 28, 1920, in Scooba, Mississippi, to Elizabeth Gayle (â€śBessieâ€ť) Duke Carter and Walter Spinks Carter. She graduated from East Mississippi Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a music teacher and a member of the Alpha Sigma Alpha, the MacDowell Music Club, the Pliedes Club, the Fort Rosalie DAR, the Garden Club and First Baptist Church of Jackson, Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Julius Kirk Morgan, Jr., her parents Walter Spinks Carter and Bessie Duke Carter, and her brothers William Duke Carter and Walter Spinks Carter, Jr. She is survived by her three loving daughters, Helen Gayle Morgan, Betty Morgan Benton and Jane Morgan Read, her sons-in-law Richard Benton and Jeff Read, and her grandchildren Jason Kirk Read and wife Andrea Chaves Read, Joshua Hays Read and wife Lisa May Read, and Jacob Morgan Read, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Morganâ€™s funeral will be held on Friday, June 10,2011 at Wright and Ferguson on High Street in Jackson, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wright and Ferguson on High Street and on Friday, June 10, 2011from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Wright and Ferguson on High Street.
