The Starkville Public Library is proud to present the 2011 Young Adult Summer Reading Program.
The theme for this summer is “You Are Here,” which will allow teens to enjoy many programs that explore and celebrate diversity, expression, and one’s place in the world.
This year the Starkville Public Library is partnering with Barnes & Noble, who will host three programs at the Mississippi State book store, and with the Starkville Friends of the Library, who sponsor most of the other summer events.
The Young Adult Section has also enlisted the talents of several Starkville-area individuals who are graciously contributing their time and skills to the Library.
The Young Adult Summer Reading Program is for junior high and high school students; Teen Registration begins June 9 and 10 at 2 p.m.

• June 9-10 at 2-3:30 p.m. —You Are Here Registration for the Young Adult Summer Reading Program begins.
• June 14 from 3:30-4:40 p.m. — Fantastes Book YA Book Club — Explore space and time as we read “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeleine L’Engle and “When You Reach Me” by Rebecca Stead 
• June 15 from 4--5 p.m. — Confabulation YA Book Club — Food, fun, and fairies as we read “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by William Shakespeare
• June 16 from 2-3:30 p.m.—Barnes & Noble Presents: African Beats with Dr. Robert Damm — Enjoy learning about and using African drums and other instruments. *This program will meet at Barnes and Noble.* *Please sign up.* — There is a limited amount of space for this program
• June 17 from 10- 11:45 a.m. — Film-making Club — Write and film awesome short films
• June 17 from 2-3:30 p.m. —Yoga Workshop with Kate Fabel —Learn basic yoga stretches and forms. *Please wear modest athletic clothing to this program.*
• June 21 from 3:30 - 4:30 — Fantastes Book YA Book Club — “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeleine L’Engle — Chapters 1-4.

“You Are Here: Mississippi” Mississippi-Focused Library Poster Art Contest
—Design and submit posters throughout the summer that depict the Summer Reading Program theme with a focus on Mississippi and Starkville.
—One submission per person.
 
“You’ve Been Here” Interactive Map
—Put a dot on the map for every place that you’ve ever been.
 
“This Is Where?” Mystery Photo Display
—Guess where photos on display were taken and submit your guesses Photos will change periodically; when the photos are changed, the teen(s) with the highest number of correct guesses will receive an extra prize book.
 
Teen Reading Challenge
—In addition to the regular Reading Incentive Program, teens have the option to participate in a reading challenge. For every new book you read during the summer, you will place a sticker on a large map of the world. For every section of the map that you “fill” during the summer, the Young Adult Librarian will dress up for the day during the last week of the Summer Reading Program. Costume ideas will be submitted by teens and approved by Anna Ruhs and Mrs. Holtcamp.
