Modess J. Wicks

Modess J. Wicks, 93, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at her home. Mrs. Wicks was born on May 21, 1918. She was the daughter of the late George and Sarah Stanfield. She was a retired school teacher, a member of New Zion M.B. church and Mother of the Church.
Mrs. Wicks was preceded in death by both parents; son, Ezell N. Wicks, Jr.; two brothers, George Washington Stanfield, Jr. and Godfrey Stanfield; and four sisters, Matilda Shephard, Castoria Barr, Levada Williams and Mariah Davis.
She was survived by five sons, George M. Wicks, Sr. and Hubert S. Wicks both of Columbus, James L. Wicks, Sr. of Whittier, Cali., Bobby F. Wicks, Sr. of Jackson, and Charles E. Wicks of Starkville; two daughters, Livian J. Stovall of Columbus, and Sharon G. Murray of Caledonia; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Carter’s in Columbus on Tuesday, May 31, from 3-8 p.m. Family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 1 at 1 p.m. at New Zion M.B. Church. Rev. John A. Wicks, Jr. will be officiating. Burial will be in Wicks Memorial Gardens.
Carter’s Funeral Services in Columbus will be handling the arrangements.
