It's never been all about football for Tyson Lee.
The former Mississippi State quarterback has always used the ability to play the sport to encourage someone along the way.
That's what he plans to do June 6-8 when he holds the Tyson P. Lee 3-D Football Camp at the Starkville Academy football field.
Lee said it takes the three D's of discipline, dedication and determination to accomplish a fourth D and that's living out a dream.
"Those are the steps it takes to fulfill your dreams and reach your goals," Lee said. "For all of the ones who attend the camp, it's just about believing in their dreams and in themselves.
"I feel like a lot of kids and a lot of people don't have dreams and don't have visions. I'm not just talking about in sports, but in life, whether it be a career or academics. My main goal is for them just to believe."
The first day of the camp on June 6 will be for grades 1st-3rd for an entry fee of $40, while grades 4th-6th grades take the field on June 7 for a fee of $50 and grades 7th-12th participate on June 8 for a fee of $60. The check in is from 7:30-8:30 a.m. each day, while the camp lasts from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
This is the second year for Lee to have the camp, but decided to have the event at SA after visiting with head coach Jeff Terrill of the Vols. Terrill coached Lee at Itawamba Community College.
"We were talking one day and said we should think about doing this so he's been gracious enough to help me get it underway," Lee said. "We decided to expand it to Starkville and so whenever the time came around, we got back in touch and he said I think we should try to do this. The person he is, just kind of sought me out and gave me the idea."
Terrell wants any area athlete to be a part of the camp and knows they will benefit from spending an afternoon with Lee.
"It's a great addition to the things we can offer the kids here," Terrill said. "Just being around (Lee) myself uplifts me. I wanted him to come here because of that very statement. A young man could spend an afternoon with Tyson Lee and pick up something about the game of football for sure, but also something that he would carry all of his life."
Campers should bring cleats and a football to fit their size. Each camper receives drills, a t-shirt and an autographed picture.
The deadline to enter is May 30 and spots are limited.
