Three Jackets earn medals at state

PEARL – Three Starkville High track team members earned medals Saturday at the Class 6A state track championships in Pearl.
Kamau Bostic was SHS's highest finisher, narrowly missing the top spot in the 1,600-meter run.
Bostic came in second with a time of 4:28.89, just five one-hundredths of a second shy of first place.
Charles Hughes and girls team member Walker Mattox also each earned medals for Starkville.
Hughes took home third place in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 14.86 and Mattox finished third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:56.84.
Other individual results from Saturday include Julien Lewis' fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.84, Jacoby Smith's sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.54, Joseph MacGown's seventh-place finish in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:32.11, Jalan Catledge's seventh-place finish in the triple-jump with a distance of 43-00.50 and Bostic's seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.78
On the girls' side, Mary Elizabeth Stringer finished fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.92 while Mattox brought in a seventh place finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:38.91.
In relays, the boys 4x200 team consisting of Smith, Lewis, Gabe Myles and Devin Mitchell finished fourth with a time of 1:30.79, while the 4x400 team consisting of Catledge, Bostic, Smith and Hughes finished fifth with a time of 3:32.23.
Several of Starkville's finishes on Saturday set personal bests according to Starkville head coach Chris Barnett.
All of Saturday's performances lead Barnett to believe there are exciting days ahead for Starkville track.
"We only had one senior (Lewis) competing," said Barnett of the 10 Jackets that qualified for Saturday's meet. "So we have an extremely bright future."
