Chellie Dell Thomas Ormon, 72, died on Friday, May 13, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson. Born January 19,1939, in Ellisville, Chellie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved people and brought happiness to all who knew her. She was a faithful and committed Christian who loved her Lord and the many churches she and her husband served through the years. She possessed a servant’s heart and was a joy and blessing to her family and many, many friends. Chellie was a graduate of Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was an elementary and kindegarten teacher and ended her working career as secretary for the District Superintendent of the Jackson District of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed painting, flowers, bird-watching, quilting, United Methodist Women, and spoiling her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilton C. Thomas and Ivon G. Thomas of Ellisville. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Rev. Jim Ormon of Starkville. Together they served United Methodist Churches in south Mississippi for 40 years, retiring in 2006 to Starkville. She was an avid Bulldog fan and enjoyed traveling to new places and seeing new and beautiful things. Additional survivors include four children - Shane (Theresa) Ormon of Clinton, Shannon (Chris) Canard of Flora, Julie (Augie) Henderson of Tupelo, and Katie (Matt) Humphreys of Brandon; six grandsons - Grae and Collins Ormon, Ransom and Hayden Henderson, and Luke and Logan Humphreys; two granddaughters - Rivers Ormon and Abigail Henderson; a sister - Margaret Ann (Charles) Pickering, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church’s Christian Life Center in Starkville on Monday, May 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. The memorial service will be in the sanctuary of church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17, preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at 4 p.m. in Ellisville, MS, at the Ellisville cemetery.
