Beverly Diane Jenkins

May 14, 2011

Beverly Diane Jenkins passed from this life in the early hours of Friday, May 13, 2011, after a brief illness at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Born April 4, 1937, she was 74 years old. She was born in Adams, Ind. and was a graduate of Greensburg High School, where she sang in the choir, and Indiana University.
After her marriage to Johnie N. Jenkins, she worked as an elementary school teacher until the birth of her children. She then devoted her life to raising her two daughters, June Jenkins Weaver and Jean Allison Jenkins.
Once her children were out of high school, Diane began another phase in her career, and worked over 20 years at the Campus Book Mart, retiring in 2005.
An active member of the Starkville church of Christ, she taught nursery, pre-school and elementary Bible classes for over 40 years. Diane and her husband, Johnie, were involved in beginning the University Christian Student Center campus ministry program at the church of Christ.
An avid reader, she was never without a book at arms’ reach, and died with one in her hands. She was a world traveler, and visited four continents and nearly all 50 states with her husband and family. Diane enjoyed camping, classical music, singing, flowers, and spending time with her family.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman Hoffman and Valeta Darby Martin. She leaves her husband of 52 years, Dr. Johnie N. Jenkins; her daughters, Jean Jenkins and June Weaver; son-in-law, John Weaver; and granddaughter, Lauren E. Weaver all of Starkville. Additionally, she leaves her brother, Daryl Martin and wife, LethaJoy, Martin of Baltimore, Md.
She lived a full life, having been a 55 year cancer survivor, and was an example of a Godly woman who loved her family, her church family, and her God.
Donations may be made to the University Christian Student Center Building Fund, c/o the Starkville church of Christ, 1107 E. Lee Blvd., Starkville, MS 39759.
