The Starkville School District Board of Trustees has called a special meeting today at 1:30 p.m. at the Greensboro Center. The meeting was first scheduled today at noon but was changed to allow all board members to attend.
Officials declined to confirm whether the meeting would address the “indefinite leave of absence” by SSD Superintendent Judy Couey.
The meeting is in response to a special meeting the board held Wednesday, April 20, which resulted in an executive session in which the board discussed a personnel matter, but would not go into further detail.
Speculation arose as to the nature of the personnel matter when board President Pickett Wilson stated that Couey is on indefinite leave following the April 20 meeting.
“The Starkville School District Board of Trustees recognizes the enormous responsibility it has to the administrators, teachers, students, parents and community, and the board is committed to fulfilling its obligation to provide the best education possible in an environment that fosters learning,” said Nicole Thomas, public information officer for the SSD. “The board cannot, however, disclose the reasons for its most recent actions in executive session as it involves a personnel matter, and legally, the board is unable to provide further details.”
