Family and Friends mourn the passing of Jimmy Lee Shurden who was a lifelong resident of Starkville and Oktibbeha County.
Jimmy was born on April 11,1943, and passed into the hands of the lord at his home, surrounded by his wife and family on April 19, 2011 at 10:15 a.m.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his Father Archie Lee Shurden and his son Chad Ashley Shurden.Â
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 23 years, Ruby Shurden; his beloved mother, Christine Shurden; and his family, Bill and Tammy Kelly (daughter), Howard â€śSkipâ€ť and Tracey Eastham (daughter), Jim Jr. and Sheri Shurden (son), Katrina Crowley (daughter), Bruce Shurden (brother), Katie Corley (sister), Carol Lewellen (sister), and Alice Hinson (sister).
Jimmy had eight grandchildren, Brandy Montfort (granddaughter), Kristi Smith (granddaughter), Jason Smith (grandson), Wesley Brewer (grandson), Jordan Crowley (granddaughter) and six great-grandchildren.
Jimmy served his community in the capacity of District 1, Constable for 28 years to the day of his passing, was retired from Mississippi State University after 37 1/2 years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Meadowview Baptist Church in Starkville .
Friends and family paid their respects at the visitation on Thursday, April 21, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Welchâ€™s Funeral Home in Starkville followed by a church service at the Meadowview Baptist Church located at 300 Linden Circle, on April 22, 2011, at 10 a.m.
Jimmyâ€™s final resting place will be at the Adaton Baptist Church cemetery in Adaton.
Pall bearers will be Chain Owens, Stephens Phelps, William Ford, Jimmie Thomas, Matt Henson, and Landon Stamps.
Honorary pall bearers will be officers of the Starkville Police Department and the Oktibbeha County Sheriffâ€™s Department.
