‘Taste and Treasure’ to benefit Wesley

April 5, 2011

A group of students from the Mississippi State University’s Wesley Foundation will raise funds for various missions projects through a craft sale Friday from 3-7 p.m. at Cups-N-Cakes in Starkville.
The event, called “Taste and Treasure,” will offer a wide variety of crafts including, knitted scarves, hats and blankets, bracelets, and paintings. The proceeds will help fund several different missions from all over the world, including orphanages in Ghana and Honduras, and projects in India, Sudan, Haiti, China and the U.S. They will also offer sponsorship packets for children in other countries.
Leigh Holland, who organized the event, came up with the idea after visiting an orphanage in Honduras last December.
“I brought cards and paint down there as a project for the kids,” Holland said. She had the children paint the postcards and will sell the cards at the event to help raise money for the orphanage.
That project inspired other members of the Wesley Foundation to create crafts to raise funds for their own projects or missions.
“We have different talents and it was a good way to get people from the community involved,” Rachel Brock, an intern at the Wesley Foundation said.
Admission to the craft sale is free, and the crafts will range in price. The event will feature live music from Beau Black and Katie Heckel. The first 12 people to make purchases will receive a free cupcake from Cups-N-Cakes.
For more information on the craft sale, visit the “Taste and Treasure” event page on Facebook.
