FROM STAFF REPORTS
Colleen McCarthy has joined Starkville Daily News as a general assignment reporter.
An Ohio native, she is a recent graduate of the University of Dayton with a degree in journalism and a minor in Spanish.
While in school, she was a member of Phi Beta Chi Professional Communications Fraternity. McCarthy was also a staff writer for the University of Dayton’s newspaper, The Flyer News.
She interned at Starkville Daily News and Mississippi State University’s radio station, WMSV, in 2007 and chose to return to Starkville to begin her career.
“Colleen will be a great addition to our staff,” said SDN Editor Leilani Salter. “As a general assignment reporter she will cover a variety of topics in the county. We feel fortunate that she chose to come to Starkville to begin her career.”
Her future career goal is to work as a foreign correspondent for a major news organization in Latin America.
“Although I was not born in Mississippi, I feel very much at home here, expecially with extended family living in Columbus,” said McCarthy.
