John Guthrie âBudâ Burrell, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 7, 2011, at OCH Regional MedicalCenter in Starkville, surrounded by his loving family. He was a retired, self employed farmer, member of CrossPoint Baptist Church, Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, member of the American Legion, VFW, former mayor of Ruleville, and a Justice Court Judge of Sunflower County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton O. Burrell and Mary L. Hood Burrell.
He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Burrell; sons, Gary Burrell (Barbara) and Jay Burrell (Tamar), all of Starkville; sister, Gloria (Doll) Posey of Doddsville; brother, Bobby H. Burrell of Hernando; grandsons, Brian, Jeremy, Alan, Ben and Dawson Burrell; and one great grandson, Jaxon Burrell.
Visitation for Mr. Burrell is scheduled for Thursday, March 10 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville, with the funeral service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Scott Cappleman, Rev. A. M. âSonnyâ Moore, III and Rev. Higdon Herrington will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville.
