Starkvilleâs two First Ladies joined forces Thursday for a great cause. Mississippi State Universityâs First Lady Rhonda Keenum and Starkvilleâs First Lady Lindsey Wiseman presented 2011 Town & Gown Ladies Social at the MSU Bryan Building.
Wiseman said the purpose of the event was to bring together women of MSU and the city of Starkville for fellowship, fun and to promote a good cause.
âLast yearâs Town & Gown fashion show was an effort to encourage women to shop locally,â said Wiseman. âThis year we are also fundraising for the United Way and the Promise Program of MSU, while still showing off the awesome vendors that are available right here in our area.â
Keenum said the MSU Promise Program is designed to help students in economically challenging situations meet tuition expenses and receive institutional support needed to ensure their continued success as they work toward a college degree.
âLindsey and I looked to create an extension of the successful collaborative relationship that Mark and Parker have as respective leaders of âgown and town,ââ said Keenum. âTheir partnership is one that highlights opportunities to move our university, our city, our region and state forward,â she said.
Numerous eateries from Starkville and MSU donated heavy hors dâoeuvres and desserts. The MSU Fashion Board, under direction of advisor Ann Bailey, modeled spring fashions from local boutiques.
