Jay Barton Spencer, 45, of Hattiesburg died Feb. 12, 2011, at his residence.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church, in Hattiesburg.
Burial will be at Highland Cemetery.
Mr. Spencer was a graduate of Starkville High School, the University of Southern Mississippi, and the University of North Texas.
He had been a librarian at the University of Southern Mississippi since 1996.
He spent his youth in Starkville, where he received much love and nurturing as part of the Starkville Church of Christ.
As an adult in Hattiesburg he was an active member of First Presbyterian Church and was greatly encouraged and strengthened by the support of his church family.
Mr. Spencer was a man of God who will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of music, and his devotion to family and friends. During two and a half difficult years of illness, he persevered with dignity, courage, and an upbeat attitude which was a great encouragement to those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Armstrong Spencer; daughter, Sarah Price Spencer; son, John Barton Spencer, all of Hattiesburg; father, James A. Spencer of Bentonville, Ark.; mother, Barbara Good of Cherokee, N.C.; grandmother, Edna Good of Commerce, Texas; brother Tim Spencer and his wife Judy of Bentonville, Ark.; sister Jeannie Alexander and her husband Tom of Cordova, Tenn.; nieces and nephews, Keely and Brandon Burcham, Kinsey Alexander, Drew Alexander, Brady Spencer, Emily Spencer, and Clay Spencer; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First Presbyterian Church, Hattiesburg; Presbyterian Christian School, Hattiesburg; or the Starkville Church of Christ.
