The high school basketball teams that are still playing this week face must-win situations the next two nights.
In the first round of North State and South State play, the challenge for those squads is to win or have its season come to an abrupt end.
Tonight is girl's night for the Mississippi High School Activities Association, while Tuesday belongs to the boys.
The East Oktibbeha Lady Titans look to get back on the winning track tonight when they host South Leake in the Class A South State Tournament. The tipoff in Crawford is set for 7 p.m.
After a disappointing 42-36 loss to Weir in the championship game of the Class A, Region 5 Tournament at French Camp on Friday, East Oktibbeha girls coach Randy Brooks has tried to emphasize the importance of performing well in the postseason.
"The girls understand it's either win or go home," Brooks said. "I've explained that to them. I told them that all of the teams that are not very good have gone home. From here on out, anybody can beat anybody."
Brooks has preached about the three things his team must do to be successful all season and that's playing good defense, taking good shots and taking care of the basketball.
Those areas carried the Lady Titans to a 10-0 division mark in the regular season and an 18-9 record overall.
Since weather kept East Oktibbeha from honoring its seniors during the final regular season game against Weir, the girls will be recognized tonight while the boys take their turn prior to Tuesday's game against Thomastown.
West Oktibbeha's girls host a first-round Class A North State game against Coffeeville in Maben tonight, while Eupora goes to West Bolivar for Class 2A action. All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
