Many schools and local businesses closed a little early Tuesday for in preparation for winter weather moving through Mississippi.
In the event of school closings, the Oktibbeha County School District will utilize its alert messaging system, which sends messages to parents’ cell phones, home homes and e-mail.
The Starkville School District will make a decision regarding school closing early Thursday morning and will inform parents through the Alert Now system and the local news stations.
All parents should tune into the local news station Thursday morning for the latest in school closings.
According to the Associated Press, the winter storm forecasts call for up to five inches of snow in northwest Mississippi and an inch or less around Atlanta — enough to snarl traffic in a region with few salt trucks and plowing equipment.
Winter storm warnings were issued for an area stretching from northern Louisiana to Georgia.
