JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say about 60 Choctaw County school students have been injured and at least three adults were killed when one of their two school buses collided head-on with an 18-wheeler in Calhoun County.
It happened Tuesday on Mississippi 8, about 40 miles south of the University of Mississippi at Oxford.
Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Jon Kalahar said one of those killed was the driver of the 18-wheeler. He said the other two adults killed were school employees and 10 students from Ackerman High School have been transported to area hospitals. One was taken by air to Northeast Mississippi Medical Center.
Choctaw County School Board member Mike Thomas described the injuries as non-life threatening. The rest were sent to the Calhoun City Fire Department for further assessment.
The high school students were returning from a trip to the University of Mississippi.
