Despite the recent winter weather forecasts, Dudy Gras 5.5 Parade and Red Beans and Rice Cook-off will still take place as planned today.
In case of rain, the Red Beans and Rice Cook-off will be moved inside the Greater Starkville Development Partnership Welcome Center, providing a warm place for patrons to escape the weather and enjoy a variety of Red Beans and Rice recipes!
Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners of the Best Decorated Booth, Best Beans, and Peopleâ€™s Choice awards, so community members are encouraged to come sample the dishes for free and vote on their favorite recipe!
Cooking will begin at noon and tasting begins at 4 p.m. followed by the Dudy Gras Parade at 4:30 p.m.
The route will begin on Main Street and continue down University Drive and end on MSUâ€™s campus at Left Field Lounge at Dudy Noble Field.
Â On Saturday, the Eight Days of Dudy Gras Culinary Tour begins and will continue until Feb. 12 with the Dudy Gras Masquerade at the Veranda Restaurant.
Local restaurants taking part in the culinary tour have created special Cajun menu items that theyâ€™ll debut on their specific night, and patrons are encouraged to follow the tour with a punch card that can be picked up at the GSDP offices.
Punch cards will be stamped at each participating restaurant after dining, and those that visit five out of the seven restaurants on the tour will receive free admission to the Dudy Gras Masquerade, a $15 value.
Punch cards may be picked up and tickets for the Masquerade may be purchased at the GSDP offices.
Below is a schedule of events for the 2011 Dudy Gras Festival:
â€˘ Red Beans and Rice Cook-off on Main Street (sidewalks)/ Rain Location: GSDP Welcome Center.
Cooking begins at noon. Tasting begins at 4 p.m. There is a $50 entry fee per team.
Â â€˘ Dudy Gras Parade â€” Route begins on Main Street, continues to University Drive, and ends at Left Field Lounge at Dudy Noble Field. The parade begins at 4:30 p.m.
Eight Days of Dudy Gras Culinary Tour
â€˘ February 5: Ptolemyâ€™s Taproom with complimentary gumbo and $2 Hurricanes;
â€˘ February 6: Restaurant Tyler Cajun Jazz Brunch, featuring Crab Cake Benedict; Lump Crab Meat Bloody Maryâ€™s;
Â â€˘ February 7: The Little Dooey will have Boiled Crawfish;
â€˘ February 8: Old Venice Pizza Company will have Dynamite Shrimp, Crawfish Rolls, Boudreaux Batter Fried Creole Style Crawfish Tails, Trausclaire Creole Style Crawfish Tails and Shrimp, Crawdad Delight, Mardi Gras Pizza, Daddy Crawdaddy Pizza;
â€˘ February 9: City Bagel CafĂ© will have Cajun Spaghetti with Shrimp or Chicken; Abita Beer;
â€˘ February 10: Mugshots will feature Bourbon Street drink specials;
â€˘ February 11: Central Station Grill will have Red Beans and Rice and Hurricane Drink specials.
â€˘ February 12: Dudy Gras Masquerade at the Veranda Restaurant from 7 to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at the Greater Starkville Development Partnership in advance or at the door.
Appetizers, music, and a festive Mardi Gras atmosphere make this event the perfect way to conclude the Dudy Gras series of events.
