BATESVILLE – Starkville couldn't overcome a big night from South Panola's Christa Brown as the Lady Yellowjackets fell to the Lady Tigers on the road.
Brown scored a game-high 31 points for South Panola.
Most of Brown's scoring came by taking advantage of costly SHS turnovers.
"We just couldn't minimize the turnovers," said Starkville coach Kristie Williams. "We were giving the ball away left and right. (Brown) was able to score most of her points off of easy layups."
Starkville fell to 5-16 overall and 1-5 in Class 6A, Region 2.
The Lady Jackets built themselves a lead going into halftime, but struggled over the game's final two quarters.
Starkville led 14-12 after the first quarter and took a 29-23 advantage into the intermission before South Panola outscored the Lady Jackets 43-15 in the second half.
"This year, there's usually one quarter in each game where we don't play well," said Williams. "(Friday) we didn't play well the entire second half."
Starkville will attempt to rebound from Friday's loss today at home against West Point.
Action begins with a junior varsity game at 5 p.m.
Today's games were originally scheduled for Dec. 4, 2010, but were rescheduled due to West Point's state championship football game on that day.
