Tickets are stlll available for those wanting to enjoy a Mardi Gras celebration with a Mississippi State flair and help the community’s newest emergency response agency.
That’s the date for the Bully Gras Ball being held as a benefit for Oktibbeha-Starkville Emergency Response Volunteer Services (OSERVS).
The Bully Gras Ball is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 29 — this coming Saturday — and will be held at the Starkville Country Club. The ball will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres, soft drinks and a cash bar, as well as multiple other activities. Dress is formal or semi-formal.
The ball is being organized to raise money for the OSERVS’ disaster relief, preparedness and emergency response programs. OSERVS is a non-profit agency.
The ball, says OSERVS board chair Carol Moss Read, will celebrate MSU and incorporate many elements of a traditional Mardi Gras celebration, including a Bully Gras Royal Court that will be announced the week of the event.
The court will include multiple dukes and duchesses, from which a Bully Gras king and queen will be chosen and announced the night of the Bully Gras Ball, Read said.
The featured entertainment for the ball will be The Flames, a well-known R&B band that has performed numerous times locally.
“The Bully Gras Ball is a signature fund-raiser for OSERVS, and it is an annual event,” said Read. “We are excited about the event and look forward to a fun evening that celebrates both the Mardi Gras season and Mississippi State.”
Tickets for the ball cost $50 per person and will be on sale beginning Wednesday at the OSERVS offices at 100 Highway 12 East at South Jackson Street or by calling the office at 418-8911. OSERVS board members will also be selling tickets over the next few weeks.
