Starkville Academy fourth grader Mary Beth Woodward always strives to do her best in everything shes does, and that is why she was nominated as this weekâs academic all-star.
âMary Beth is a very caring and conscientious about everything she does,â teacher Kim Robertson said. âShe always strives to be her best.â
Mary Beth is consistently on the honor roll, and she most recently made the Head of Schools list, which means all her grades were a 94 percent of higher. And she names science as her favorite subject.
âI like science the best because we are currently learning about ecosystems, and I find that interesting,â Mary Beth said. âNext, we are learning about Earth and space, and I think I will like that.â
But what Mary Beth likes most about school is her teachers.
â I have two good teachers â Mrs. Roberston and Mrs. [Lisa] Vaughn â and they make learning fun,â Mary Beth said.
Aside from her studies, Mary Beth plays piano and sings in the choir at her church. She is also a member of her school running club.
âShe is eager to participate in the lesson and listens for instruction and doing whatever the teacher asks of her,â school counselor Jessica Hubbard said. âShe is well-rounded and does activities outside of school.â
Mary Bethâs teachers may have influenced the 9-year-old more than they know as Mary Beth said she hopes to one day be an elementary teacher when she grows up.
Mary Beth is the daughter of Scott and Sarah Woodward.
