Plans for what are being described as â€śchicâ€ť condos are under way, thanks to an award-winning local developer.
Tabor Construction and Development are bringing eight new living spaces of the old Borden milk plant, where a restaurant, retailers and a climate controlled storage facility have developed within the building in less than a year.
â€śSince we bought it in 2009, it has come a long way,â€ť Tabor said Tuesday during a public hearing held by the Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission.
Taborâ€™s efforts to bring more downtown living to Starkville include one- and two-bedroom spaces around 12,110 square feet. Steve Langston, owner of Sullivanâ€™s Office Supply Inc., praised Taborâ€™s proposal Tuesday, stating that it would be an addition to Starkville.
â€śI and other people for a long time have been working to get more residential downtown, especially for young professionals,â€ť Langston said.
John Bean, owner of Central Station Grill, also spoke in support of Tabor, saying that he liked the idea of mixed uses on the property.
The commission approved a request from Tabor for a conditional use of the C-2 general business district allowing him to redevelop the proposed site.
The request now is sent to the Starkville Board of Aldermen for final ratification before becoming legally binding.
