Plans for what are being described as “chic” condos are under way, thanks to an award-winning local developer.
Tabor Construction and Development are bringing eight new living spaces of the old Borden milk plant, where a restaurant, retailers and a climate controlled storage facility have developed within the building in less than a year.
“Since we bought it in 2009, it has come a long way,” Tabor said Tuesday during a public hearing held by the Starkville Planning and Zoning Commission.
Tabor’s efforts to bring more downtown living to Starkville include one- and two-bedroom spaces around 12,110 square feet. Steve Langston, owner of Sullivan’s Office Supply Inc., praised Tabor’s proposal Tuesday, stating that it would be an addition to Starkville.
“I and other people for a long time have been working to get more residential downtown, especially for young professionals,” Langston said.
John Bean, owner of Central Station Grill, also spoke in support of Tabor, saying that he liked the idea of mixed uses on the property.
The commission approved a request from Tabor for a conditional use of the C-2 general business district allowing him to redevelop the proposed site.
The request now is sent to the Starkville Board of Aldermen for final ratification before becoming legally binding.
