Visitation for Currie Lane Smith is scheduled for Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Welch Funeral Home with the funeral and graveside service immediately following in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Hank Anderson officiate. Burial is in Oddfellows Cemetery.
Mr. Smith, 86, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at OCH Regional Medical Center in Starkville. He was a welder with B&W in West Point and a member of Starkville Church of God.Â
He was also a Navy veteran of World War II in Pearl Harbor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was kind and caring to the elderly. His favorite saying was “Do the best you can with what you got”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Myrtis Young and his son, Hardy Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Smith of Starkville; a daughter, Carol Henley of Starkville; son, Jim (G.A.) Smith of Collierville, Tenn.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
