Dr. Denise Rowan has recently released her second book for middle school level readers, and a special book-signing event is set for Saturday.
The event is set for noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnes and Noble on the Mississippi State University campus.
Her latest book, “The Bully and the Ghost,” involves the three main characters from her first book, “Caleb’s Tree,” with the addition of a junior high school bully, his girlfriend, and countless tales of old Southern ghosts.
Rowan said the book focuses on Joey’s humiliation at the hands of Hank, the school bully and how Joey deals with this seemingly impossible situation.
According to Rowan, both books incorporate factual historical elements into contemporary settings, designed to teach a moral pertinent to life today.
A teacher of history, and an experienced educator of thirty-three years, Dr. Rowan draws on her personal experiences to create her stories. She frequently uses anecdotal evidence in her teaching of history at Starkville Christian School.
Dr. Rowan publishes her books under the pseudonym Denise Cecile.
Both books are currently on sale at the Book Mart on Main Street, and “The Bully and the Ghost” may be also purchased online through Barnes and Noble as well as Amazon.
