A brand new year filled with possibilities.
One of the traditions many hold dear is the development of New Year's Resolutions. We asked the newspaper staff and readers throughout the community to share their goals and resolutions for the new year.
"My New Year's resolution is to stop stressing out about wedding planning and just enjoy the last few months before the big day."
Shea Staskowski, SDN Education Editor
"Read my Bible through this year and, as always, lose weight and start exercising again."
Marcia Daniels, SDN Office Manager
"It's tough to come up with resolutions when you've already chiseled yourself to perfection. But on the last day of the year, I promised myself I would write more. .. not news stories or features for the paper. 40 hours a week of that is enough, my goodness. But it's high time I've committed to writing more poems. More stories. Many of them inspired by people you read about in the paper who shall remain nameless. The goal now is to write them every day. Even if I'm so exhausted from a 13-hour stretch of work that all I can write is a line when I get home. When this happens, I'm much more fulfilled when I turn out the light. My kid dream is been simple - to write expressively. Doesn't matter if the Coen Brothers call me up after having read my western Gothic, or if I get published by a big dealer, or even if I'm published at all, though writers say it's good to aim high. They also say it's good to wear out a seat where nothing happens but more words. That's the idea. If I succeed in keeping this resolution, next year's would be to keep it another year."
Kelly Daniels, SDN City Beat ReporterÂ
"To be a better husband and father. To serve my Lord Jesus to the best of my ability as well as others through my endeavors as sports editor of The Starkville Daily News."
Danny P. Smith, SDN Sports Editor
"I hope to release my 'inner distance runner' this year. Yes, he's underneath several dozen extra pounds, but he's in there somewhere. I hope to participate in this year's Cotton District 5k. If nothing else, this will give me a goal to shoot for and a reason to maintain the effort. Not sure what I'll do after that but hopefully I'll come up with some other reasons to keep running in 2011 and beyond."
Paul Sims, SDN News Editor
"We wish for Peace on Earth. We wish that all of our  elected officials would try harder to get along with each other and work together. We are thankful for our many blessings."
 HelenSue and Bill Parrish
"I have experienced 10 years of the 21st century. I resolve to enjoy life and work further into the 21st century."
 Ed Clynch
"I do not have a bunch of resolutions for 2011. I resolve to buy a treadmill for Brandi and have her use it 6 days per week. Wish me luck."
Diane E. Wall
"Mom and Dad always said, 'If you have your health you have it all!' We have always resolved to keep on the healthy track with how we eat, drink, and exercise! Happy New Year!"
