Starkvilleâ€™s sales tax collections for October show close to a 5 percent increase over those for the same month in 2009, the latest figures from the Mississippi Tax Commission show.
The city saw $430,336.16 in sales tax revenues for October 2010.
The level is an increase of $24,034.23 from October 2009, which saw $406,301.93 collected.
The October sales tax revenue also marked the sixth highest monthly level of collections year to date based upon the figures that have been reported to the Tax Commission.
Starkvilleâ€™s sales tax collections for the first 10 months of 2010 are more than $180,000 above what was collected for the same period in 2009, according to the latest figures reported by the Tax Commission.
It takes the Tax Commission two months to process the revenues and report back the collections to municipalities. City officials received the latest tax figures this week.
For the first 10 months of 2010, the city has seen $4,388,389.63 in sales tax collected as compared to the $4,207,498.78 collected for the same period in 2009 â€”Â an increase of $180,890.85.
Eight of the first 10 months of 2010 saw increases in sales tax collection as compared to the same months in 2009 with the exception of February and July of this year, which were down slightly in collections as compared to the same months in 2009.
The sales tax collections from January to October saw a monthly average of $438,838.96, while tax collections for all of 2009 saw a monthly average of $427,479.76.
Revenues from the 2 percent restaurant and hotel tax have also held steady and have seen incremental growth for the eight of nine months this year.
For October 2010, local hotels and restaurants collected $124,332.54 in 2 percent tax revenues as compared to $111,788.70 for October 2009 â€” an increase of 12,543.84.
The combined 2 percent tax revenues from January to October 2010 show a marked increase over 2009.
The 2 percent tax collections for the first 10 months of this year total $1,172,993.12 as compared to the $1,111,212.44 collected for the same period for 2009 â€” an increase of $61,780.68.
The first 10 months of 2010 have seen a monthly average of $117,299.31 in 2 percent tax collections. For 2009, the monthly average was $110,173.07.
The 2 percent tax revenues are split among the Starkville Convention and Visitors Bureau (15 percent), the Starkville Parks and Recreation Department (40 percent), the city (10 percent), the Oktibbeha County Economic Development Authority (15 percent) and Mississippi State University (20 percent).
