SA sweeps games at Clarksdale-Lee

CLARKSDALE – The Starkville Academy Volunteers bounced back from a Friday night home loss to defeat Clarksdale-Lee Academy 54-37 on the road Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 12-9 to end the first quarter, the Vols responded to take a 27-21 advantage at halftime.
"We played a lot of different people - a lot of sophomores and some juniors," SA boys coach Chris Lyle said.
Austin Kinard led the Vols with 15 points, all in the second half, while Jordan Bright started his first game and finished with 10 points.
"He's an effort guy and an energy guy," Lyle said. "He really gets after it on the court."
It was the first Class AAA-North Conference win of the season for Starkville Academy as it improve to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Vols play Olive Branch at the Magnolia Heights Tournament on Dec. 28 at 2:15 p.m.

CLARKSDALE – The Lady Vols were dominate as they picked up their second-straight conference victory.
"(Clarksdale-Lee) wasn't very strong," SA girls coach Glenn Schmidt said. "We did a good job of playing our game and didn't get caught up in playing down to the level of the competition.
"We played a strong game and did a good job with our zone defense. It's good to go into the Christmas break on a winning note."
Sallie Kate Richardson led the Lady Vols with 19 points and nearly pulled off a double-double with nine rebounds. Nora Kathryn Carroll scored 12 points and Anna Lea Little added 11 points. Anna Prestridge contributed seven points and five rebounds to the SA cause.
The Lady Vols, who improved to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference, take on Southaven at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28 in the Magnolia Heights Tournament.
