WEST POINT — Those affiliated with the We Care Committee will pass out supplies two days next week in West Point.
The mission is to help, elderly, low income and disabled families by passing out commodities.
A canned food drive will be extended through Monday.
When asked what the public can do to help, We Care Committee president LueZarah Robinson said they can provide “mainly canned foods or food” which can be placed in the distribution bags along with supplies organizers already have.
“We are just going to ask the Lord to bless it,” she said.
Those interested in participating can drop off items at the Jackson Hewitt office in West Point, located at 413 West Main St., or contact organizers for pickup.
The distribution bags will hopefully contain canned foods, shoes, books, cereal, water, candy and oatmeal, Robinson said.
Organizers will fill the bags and hand them out with some information.
Qualifications for those receiving the distribution include proof of identification and income. The distribution is limited to one bag per family. If someone is sick and can’t come, the person can send a letter and proof of income with their representative.
If a person doesn’t believe he or she can stand in line for the donations, organizers ask him or her to call ahead to make arrangements.
Betty Davis with Jackson Hewitt “has been a big help to me; she’s volunteered to help me for this event,” Robinson said.
Also, Royal Trucking and A and H Electrical and Refrigeration, both in West Point, and Feed the Children lent support to the effort as well, Robinson said.
Organizers cited Luke 6:38 (NIV): “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
The We Care Committee, Feed the Children and Jackson Hewitt Tax service are sponsoring the event.
The distribution will take place Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Jackson Hewitt office in West Point.
