Campbell receives Callahan scholarship

December 16, 2010

Reggie Campbell's service to his school, community and even country have paid off.
Campbell, a former student and baseball player at Starkville High School, has been awarded one of the four Lindy Callahan Scholarships for District 4.
Even though Campbell didn't win the overall award for the state, he still received one of the $500 scholarships for the district.
He can use the money for whatever he wants.
"Anytime you are given a scholarship for something you've done out on the field or in school, it's a great opportunity for me and my family," Campbell said. "The money helps me go to school and help further my career."
Campbell has signed with Coahoma Community College to play baseball and will major in Criminal Justice. He's glad to be able to continue his baseball career after performing for coach Danny Carlisle and the Yellowjackets.
Carlisle said receiving this type of scholarship speaks to the character of Campbell.
"These scholarships are given to outstanding people," Carlisle said. "Reggie did a very good job for us this past year and is very deserving of this scholarship.
"He's late getting it because of military time. He's just gotten back from basic training. I'm extremely proud of him for that and can't thank him enough for his service to our country."
