Flu Clinic schedule updated
The Student Health Center is encouraging everyone to get a flu shot this year. The cost for the flu shot is $20 cash or check. Students also have the option to charge the shot to their student account. The following clinics are currently set up:

â˘ Nov. 17 â McArthur Hall, Room 421, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Nominations under way for honorary doctoral degrees
Nominations for honorary doctoral degrees to be awarded by Mississippi State at the spring commencement ceremony are being accepted until January 14, 2011. Nominations, including supporting materials, should be sent to the Honorary Degree Committee in care of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President.
The Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning authorized state universities to begin awarding the degrees in 1999 and generally allows each institution to give up to two each year. Mississippi State has awarded 17 honorary degrees to date.
Under IHL guidelines, persons eligible for the doctor of laws, doctor of science, doctor of humane letters, doctor of creative and performing arts, or doctor of public service must have demonstrated nationally-recognized, sustained achievement in scholarship, public service, creative and performing arts, or professional activity.
Faculty, staff, and administrators of the university, and elected or appointed public officials are ineligible for an honorary degree until one year after leaving their position. Candidates for public office also are ineligible.
Those who are eligible to submit nominations are MSU faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
All information that nominators wish to present to the Honorary Degree Committee should be provided along with the nomination by the deadline.
The Honorary Degree Committee will evaluate nominations, develop additional information about nominees, and verify information submitted.
The committee will recommend to the President candidates for degrees to be presented at April 2011 commencement ceremonies. The state College Board must approve honorary degrees at least two months prior to their announcement. Names of nominees will be kept confidential until they are approved.

Seal Jr., chairman and CEO of Hancock Bank in Gulfport; Harry Charles F. Simrall, MSU dean of engineering until his retirement in 1978; Dave C. Swalm, retired petroleum products company owner; G.V. âSonnyâ Montgomery, former 3rd District congressman from Meridian; Hunter Henry, retired Dow Chemical Co. executive; Bobby Martin, president of The Peoples Bank in Ripley; Jack Cristil, radio play by play announcer for MSU football and basketball games for more than 50 years; Charles B. Cliett, head emeritus of the aerospace engineering department; Hartley D. Peavey, owner and CEO of Peavey Electronics in Meridian; James Worth Bagley, chairman and CEO of the Lam Research Corp.; Will D. Carpenter, retired vice president and general manager, New Products Division, Monsanto Company; Myrna Colley Lee, acclaimed theatrical designer; William G. MSU photography exhibition concludes
The MSU Welcome Center is hosting an exhibition of photographs of various buildings and landmarks at Mississippi State taken by Dr. Mark Reed daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the second floor gallery of the Cullis Wade Depot.

MSU Post Office has Breast Cancer research stamp
Through the end of October, the MSU Post Office, along with the U.S. Postal Service, is recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month through the sale of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp.
Now denominated at 55 cents, it was the first semipostal stamp in U.S. history, meaning that the remaining amount not ascribed for First Class postage payment is earmarked for this designated fund.
Since its original issue date of July 29, 1998, the Breast Cancer Stamp has raised more than $70 million for breast cancer research.
For every one purchased, 11 cents goes toward research to find a cure. Visit the MSU Post Office and purchase these stamps through the end of the month. Join the fight to find a cure.
College of Business Blood Drive planned
The College of Business will sponsor a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in the McCool Hall Atrium.

Silent bike auction scheduled Thursday
Weather-permitting, the Parking Operations Bike Share Program will hold its second annual silent bike auction from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday on the closed section of street between the Colvard Student Union and the YMCA/Post Office.

âPosterShop: Creating Postersâ workshop offered
The Instructional Media Center at Mitchell Memorial Library will sponsor a workshop on âPosterShop: Creating Postersâ from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. p.m. Thursday in the Giles Classroom in Mitchell Memorial Library.
Participants will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator together to create a dynamic poster. Users need to have a working knowledge off Photoshop and Illustrator to participate effectively in this workshop.Â

Trivia Night scheduled Friday night at Wise Center
Those who have a vast knowledge of random facts and meaningless information can show off their talent during Trivia Night on Friday and help support the Child Development and Family Studies Center at Mississippi State.
Beginning at 7 p.m. in the Wise Centerâs Pegasus dining area, the event will raise funds to update and expand the current playgrounds adjacent to the center. Part of the School of Human Sciences, the CDFSC is an experiential lab where child development majors observe and interact with young children ranging in age from 8 weeks to 5 years.
According to Jan Taylor, CDFSC director, Trivia Night is one of several projects led by parents and teachers to raise funds for the playground upgrades, which will include incorporation of environmentally sensitive equipment and materials.
âTrivia Night is the brainchild of the centerâs parents who wanted to try a new approach to fundraising. Some of them had found this to be popular in other places they have lived, so we thought we would try this type of friendly competition with the Starkville and Mississippi State community,â she said.
Tables are $90 for a team of six or individuals may register for $15. Those interested may register at http://www.uhlwolf.com/trivia/ through Thursday [Nov. 11] at 5 p.m.
The nightâs games will include eight rounds of trivia with 10 questions in each round. Topics will range from pop culture and history to sports and science. Refreshments also will be available.
Grand prize for the overall winning team is $180, with other prizes including Barnes & Noble, Chiliâs, Umi, Sweet Peppers and Dandy Doodlez gift certificates, and a gift item from The Lodge.

The Instructional Media Center at Mitchell Memorial Library will sponsor a workshop on âEditing and Correcting Theses and Dissertationsâ from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday in the Giles Classroom in Mitchell Memorial Library.
Get help with editing and correction requirements of the MSU Office of Graduate Studiesâ âGuidelines for Preparing Dissertations and Theses.â This workshop will help you make the corrections that are necessary for your document to meet submission requirements and approval.
To participate in the workshop you should be a student who has submitted a thesis or dissertation and is working on correction in order to finalize the submission process.

CAB to host Stress Relief Fair next week
The Campus Activities Board will host a Stress Relief Fair on the campus of Mississippi State University.

The fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Tuesday in the Dawg House on the first floor of the Colvard Student Union and is open to all students, faculty and staff.
There will be a number of activities and âfreebiesâ for anyone who comes to the fair. Massages will be offered, as well as free eye masks and tea packets.
For students looking to wind down a busy semester, free study materials and tips will be available. Sheets of bubble wrap will also be available for people to pop as a way to relief stress.
