Mrs. Whitfield, a mother of four, grandmother of nine, and great grandmother of seven, was a pillar of love and support to her entire family. She enjoyed nothing more than having her home full of family and friends. In addition to her family, Edith loved Demopolis and devoted much of her time to civic projects. As the wife of Dr. Fred Whitfield, she helped in his office and was instrumental in helping Bryan W. In addition to her work with the hospital auxiliary, she was also a long time organizer of the Community Blood Drive. Her loving smile, enthusiasm for service, leadership and kindness worked to bring care and comfort to patients and families in Demopolis in their time of need.
Mrs. Whitfield was a member of First United Methodist Church in Demopolis, and she was involved with the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Whitfield will be deeply missed by the many generations of youth in the community with whom she opened her home and heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Fred S. Whitfield, Jr., her parents, Robert Henry Bond and Laura Underwood Bond of Union City, Tennessee, her son Fred S. Whitfield, III of Demopolis, and her grandson Franklin David Whitfield of Tuscaloosa.
