MABEN – It is not every day that a team posts 47 hits and 42 runs in nine innings, but that is exactly what the East Webster softball team did during its two game stint of Eupora’s Slow Pitch Classic.
The Lady Wolverines defeated Grenada 19-1 first, then turned around and knocked off Bruce 23-0 to start the season 2-0.
“The opening weekend for us went real well,” East Webster coach Lee Berryhill said. “We played real strong defensively while offensively we hit throughout the lineup. We kept turning the order over and just kept going. (There's) not a lot of holes on either side of the ball.”
Seeing his team provide such impenetrable defense makes Berryhill proud because the coach knows when it comes to slow pitch, it is all about stopping the other team from scoring.
