Concern has turned into optimism that the Starkville High School football stadium will be ready by the first game of the season.
It was only two weeks ago when SHS officials were taking a cautious "wait and see" attitude when athletic director Stan Miller gave the Starkville School District Board of Trustees a progress report on the stadium. At that time, gravel was piled high on the surface and work appeared to be at a standstill.
The board decided "to take no action" during a special-called July 22 meeting, were not going to do a change order and asked the contractor (Clear River Construction of Flowood) to come back and finish the job.
