Starkville 12's win consolation championship of World Series

July 28, 2014

SOUTHAVEN – The Starkville 12-year-old All-Stars defeated Germantown, Tenn., 5-2 on Monday to take the championship of the consolation bracket at the Dizzy Dean World Series.
Starkville started off slow offensively against Germantown, but never let its opponent establish more than a 1-0 lead.
The defense and the pitching of Garrett Lewis, who had 10 strikeouts, kept Starkville in the game.
Izak Hanson had a pinch-hit single in the fifth inning that ignited a Starkville comeback.
Starkville held on for the victory and coach Leonardo Thompson was satisfied with the outcome at the World Series.
"I want to thank the Lord for safe travel to and from Southaven," Thompson said. "I want to thank all of the kids put forth an extraordinary effort, all of the parents and our donors who helped fund the trip. I want to especially thank Jared Swindle, Larry Graves and Randy Carlisle for helping coach the team.
