There may be a little extra grit behind the play of Starkville Academy’s softball team when it takes the field today.
Some of the excitement will simply be because the Lady Volunteers are finally putting practice behind them in exchange for an actual game, but a bit of the spark will stem from the fact they are facing fellow Golden Triangle team Oak Hill.
“As a coach, we don’t really see it as a rivalry, but I think the kids do just because it is so close,” SA coach Kayla Mosley said. “You always see us play a little harder against them than we do some of the other schools, but it is fun that way. When the game is over, everybody gets along.”
